The Sugar Act No. 11 of 2024 established the Kenya Sugar Board. Section 40 (1) of the Act provides that The Cabinet Secretary shall in consultation with the Board, by order in the gazette, impose a levy on domestic sugar not exceeding four per centum of the value and a four per centum of CIF value on imported sugar to be known as the Sugar Development Levy. Similarly, Section 41(1) of the Act provides for the establishment of the Sugar Development Fund which shall be administered by the Board.
The Board convened successful public consultative forums on the draft SDF Operations Manual with relevant stakeholders during the week of 23rd to 30th June, 2025. The views, comments and inputs received from the stakeholders during the public engagements have been reviewed and some of the stakeholders’ comments incorporated into the revised draft SDF Operations Manual.
To this end, the Board has organized a public validation forum with all relevant stakeholders to provide them with an opportunity to further review, discuss and give feedback on the revised SDF Operations Manual.
The public validation forum on the revised SDF Operations Manual has been scheduled to take place on the 29th September, 2025 at the Sunset Hotel – Kisumu from 9:00 am.
