London, UK (29 November 2024): Jude Chesire, the Acting CEO of the Kenya Sugar Board (KSB), has made history by becoming the Vice Chairman of the International Sugar Organization (ISO). This milestone marks a first for Kenya and Africa since the ISO’s establishment in 1968.
The election took place during the ISO Council meeting on 29 November 2024 at 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London. Mr. Edgar Herrera, Executive Director of LAICA, Costa Rica, was elected as Chairman, with Mr. Chesire succeeding him as Vice Chairman for a two-year term.
The ISO Council serves as the highest decision-making body in the global sugar industry, representing 114 member countries, including leading sugar and ethanol producers such as Brazil, India, the EU, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, and the UK. Together, these nations produce over 165 million tons of sugar and vast quantities of ethanol annually.
Mr. Chesire’s election is a testament to Kenya’s increasing prominence in the global sugar sector. It highlights the country’s dedication to advancing sustainable sugar production, trade, and economic development on the international stage.
